This book consists of two different research problems. In the first one, the aim is to model and simulate a solar-powered, single-effect, absorption refrigeration system using a flat-plate solar collector and LiBr-H2O mixture as the working fluid. The cooling capacity and the coefficient of performance of the system are analyzed by varying all independent parameters, namely: evaporator pressure, condenser pressure, mass flow rate, LiBr concentration, and inlet generator temperature. The cooling performance of the system is compared with conventional vapor-compression systems for different refrigerants (R-134a, R-32, and R-22). The cooling performance is also assessed for a typical year in Tampa, Florida. In the second problem, a numerical model is developed for a typical food retail store refrigeration/HVAC system to study the effects of indoor space conditions on supermarket energy consumption. Refrigerated display cases are normally rated at a store environment of 24C (75F) and a relative humidity of 55%. If the store can be maintained at lower relative humidity, significant quantities of refrigeration energy, defrost energy and anti-sweat heater energy can be saved.
This Work deals with development of stores management system for a manufacturing Industry. The developed software System is easy to use, less time consuming & all detail about the stores items & transaction status. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software presents a frame work for organizations to better utilize their processes. The Front-end is developed using Visual Basic. The Backend used is SQL server database that ensures total security and no data loss or corruption. The database management systems are warehouses of information, where large amount of data can be stored. The Reports are developed using Crystal Report. Crystal Reports is the standard reporting tool for Visual Studio .NET. The main idea of this work is to handle the all details of stores management system. In this software package has been developed to smoothen the processing of item transaction in stores such as item receive, item issue & report generation such as stock statement, issue register & receive register etc. This Software will help in automating all the process like receiving and issuing application in stores.
Optical and fiber optic chemical sensors have been reported extensively in literature on last two decades. Fiber optic sensors have since then found applications in chemical, biochemical, bio medical and environmental sensing. In general, Fiber optic sensors are classified as intrinsic and extrinsic type sensors. In the extrinsic type of sensors the optical fiber is only used as a means of light transport to an external sensing system. The intrinsic fiber optic sensors differ from extrinsic sensors, where light does not have to leave the optical fiber to perform the sensing function. In the intrinsic fiber optic sensors, the optical fiber structure is modified and the fiber itself plays an active role in the sensing function. Examples of intrinsic fiber sensors include, fibers with Bragg gratings, Long period gratings modified cladding or micro or macro bends. Some of these techniques use the evanescent field interaction for the sensing purpose. One of the accessing method of evanescent wave from the optical fiber is to reduce the cladding thickness. Traditional supermarket refrigeration systems have long piping system, fittings and joints causing substantial refrigerant losses. The refrigerant losses bring about high cost and environmental damage. Additionally, defrosting of air-coils is one of the most energy consuming processes in supermarket refrigeration systems to keep display cabinets under the required temperature. Various studies, though limited in scope, have been conducted by several researchers in order to provide efficient and environmentally friendly supermarket refrigeration technologies. The current study, therefore, presents numerical models for cascade and secondary coolant systems and new correlations for frost property. These models showed that energy savings from 17500 to 170000kWh per annum could potentially be achieved from a typical supermarket store. These systems also avoid the use of environmentally damaging refrigerants thereby attracting supermarket owners. Finally, a step-by-step exercise of the application of the secondary coolant model has been presented to completely design, select, evaluate and install such systems or retrofit the existing traditional refrigeration systems in supermarkets.
